The American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Research Society applaud Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren and Congressman Rodney Davis for introducing House Resolution 1103 showing support for National Student Sleep Health Week. Now, during the COVID-19 pandemic, more than ever, it is critical that we drive awareness of the importance of healthy sleep for students of all ages and backgrounds.
This being the first year of the National Student Sleep Health Week is especially pertinent with the passing of Dr. William Dement, the father of sleep medicine, this past summer. Dr. Dement was passionate about the advocacy of sleep medicine in Washington, D.C. and taught generations of students who are today’s sleep professionals and experts. The introduction of this resolution honors his life, passion, and career.
Jointly, the AASM and SRS encourage all of their members to ask their Representatives to cosponsor the resolution by filling out the simple one-click message and sharing the Student Sleep Health Week page.
