As of Jan. 1, 2024, another round of Medicare physician payment cuts was implemented, having grave consequences for sleep medicine professionals and their ability to continue providing high quality care to patients with sleep disorders. The AASM continues to partner with the American Medical Association (AMA) and other medical specialty societies in advocating for physician payment reform. The almost 10% reduction in Medicare physician payments over the last four years, coupled with the lack of inflationary updates, is unsustainable.
AASM members are urged to visit the AASM Action Center and contact your congressional leaders today, demanding that they reverse the payment cuts by March 1 as part of the 2024 appropriations package. Members may send questions about the AASM’s ongoing physician payment reform initiatives to coding@aasm.org.
