The AASM is up for a five-year review of its representation in the American Medical Association’s House of Delegates. Participation enables the AASM to represent the sleep specialty in two key committees overseeing practice and reimbursement issues:

  • The AMA/Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC), which impacts CMS and private payor reimbursements.
  • The Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) Advisory Committee, which provides guidance to the CPT Editorial Panel, which determines new codes for claims.

Representation by medical specialties is based on the portion of the society’s physician members that are also AMA members. The AMA will be reviewing AASM membership in September, so it’s important that you join or renew your AMA membership by Sept. 3 to ensure that sleep medicine continues to have a voice in important decision-making that affects medical practices.
