On June 25, 2024, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released a reminder that the 2024 Quality Payment Program (QPP) exception applications are available through Dec. 31, 2024, at 8 p.m. EST.

There are two types of exception applications available for users to specify the reason for their inability to report data for one or more Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) performance categories:

  1. MIPS Promoting Interoperability Performance Category Hardship Exception Application
  2. MIPS Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances Exception Application

Individual clinicians, groups, and virtual groups (or third-party representatives) who meet the requirements for either exception are encouraged to request reweighing of one or more MIPS performance categories. View additional information from CMS about the QPP exception applications.
