The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has recently announced a number of rules and regulations that will have a sweeping impact on clinical practice and will directly affect sleep medicine practitioners.

The proposed regulation from CMS suggests a revision to the physician fee schedule for 2008 that reduces payments to physicians by 9.9 percent, and also suggests changes to the Stark law and performance standards for independent diagnostic testing facilities.

The AASM has disseminated information on the proposed regulation via the Weekly Update and AASM Web site, and Neil Cooper, who has represented the AASM on health policy matters, has prepared a detailed summary for members to understand how the regulation will affect their practice if made law.
