AASM staff attended the 2025 CMS Quality Conference (#QualCon25), held on July 1–2. This year’s theme was “Make America Healthy: Improving Health Outcomes Through Prevention, Quality, and Safety.”

CMS prioritized key areas including:

  • Chronic disease prevention
  • Advancing artificial intelligence
  • Prioritizing prevention
  • Successful interoperability
  • Transitioning to digital quality measures
  • Reducing burden and improving outcomes

This is not a comprehensive list.

Two of the most intriguing presentations during #QualCon25 included:

Reimagining Systems for a New Era of Quality Outcomes

Moderator: Dora Hughes, MD, MPH
Speakers: Michael Chernaw, PhD; Margaret O’Kane; Dana Gelb Safran, ScD

National quality experts reflected on two decades of progress in health care quality, the positive impact of quality measures on patient care, and the ongoing challenge of reducing administrative burden.

Delivering on Quality: CMS’ Path to Health Care Excellence

Speakers: Susannah Bernheim, MD, MHS; Jessica Lee, MD, MHP; Michelle Schreiber, MD

Speakers highlighted CMS’s role in promoting quality health care, patient safety, preventive care, and data‑driven outcomes. A recurring theme was simplifying measurement to prioritize quality and reduce burden. Quality ambassadors can support this by improving data exchange, analytics, and access to research.
