On Oct. 11, a bipartisan group of 232 members of the U.S. House of Representatives submitted a letter to their leadership, calling for urgent action to address the scheduled 2.8% cut to the Medicare payment conversion factor for 2025. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Medicare payments for physicians and health care professionals would be cut under the Medicare physician fee schedule.

Highlighting the growing concern among health care professionals who rely on Medicare reimbursements, this bipartisan letter is a positive step toward halting the planned cuts. With Congress currently in recess until Nov. 12, addressing the Medicare physician payment cuts remains a key priority in the year-end lame-duck session, along with other health care issues.

The AASM continues to work with the American Medical Association (AMA) and many other health care organizations to advocate for a legislative solution before the cuts take effect, emphasizing that continuous reductions in reimbursement rates could impact access to care and the financial viability of many practices.
