A new study in the Aug. 15 issue of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine found that men with severe obstructive sleep apnea had significantly higher blood count values of mean platelet volume (MPV), a newly recognized tool for assessing cardiovascular risk. Six months of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy resulted in significantly lower MPV values. According to the authors, a complete blood count is simple to perform and can be useful during follow-up with patients using CPAP therapy.
