On Aug. 26, 2024, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released a list of frequently asked questions related to the office/outpatient (O/O) evaluation and management (E/M) visit complexity add-on code HCPCS G2211.
CMS updated the guidance concerning this code, effective Jan. 1, 2024, revising the status of G2211 to “active,” making it separately payable in addition to the primary O/O E/M service codes. This change reflects the additional resources required for visits that serve as a continuous focal point for patients’ health care needs or involve ongoing care for a single serious or complex condition.
