The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that the Merit-based Incentive Payment System automatic extreme and uncontrollable circumstances policy will be applied to MIPS eligible clinicians who were affected by Hurricanes Milton, Helene, or Francine. For those clinicians, performance categories will be reweighted to 0% during the 2024 data submission period, and they will receive a neutral payment adjustment for the 2026 MIPS payment year. Additional information can be found on the Quality Payment Program (QPP) exception applications webpage.
The AASM also encourages members who have been affected by Hurricanes Milton, Helene, or Francine to review eligibility criteria for the AASM Foundation Disaster Relief Fund to potentially apply for financial assistance, if needed. These funds aid AASM-accredited sleep centers that have lost the ability to operate and provide patient care due to damage to their facilities caused by local disasters.
