On Oct. 2, 2024, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that it will accelerate and advance payments to Medicare fee-for-service providers and suppliers to offer support in the event of financial difficulties resulting from Hurricane Helene.

Accelerated and advance payments associated with Hurricane Helene may be provided in amounts that correspond to a percentage of claims payments made in the previous 90 days. Payments will be reimbursed through automatic deductions from Medicare claims over a 90-day period after the accelerated or advance payment is issued. On the 91st day after the issuance of the accelerated or advance payment, a request will be made for any outstanding balance. The AASM also encourages members at AASM-accredited sleep facilities that have been affected by Hurricane Helene to review eligibility criteria for the AASM Foundation Disaster Relief Fund to potentially apply for financial assistance, if needed.
