On March 24, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that the deadline for Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) submissions for the Quality Payment Program (QPP) has been extended through 8 p.m. EDT on Monday, April 14.
- Clinicians and groups who are eligible to opt in and wish to report MIPS data must finalize their opt-in election by Monday, March 31, at 8 p.m. EDT. (Data must be submitted by April 14 at 8 p.m. EDT.)
- Partial qualifying alternative payment model (APM) participants (QPs) who wish to report MIPS data and receive a MIPS payment adjustment must finalize their Partial QP election by March 31 at 8 p.m. EDT. (Data must be submitted by April 14 at 8 p.m. EDT.)
Additionally, in response to the national IV fluid shortage, the 2024 Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances (EUC) Exception application will reopen Monday, March 31, at 10 a.m. EDT, and it will close April 14 at 8 p.m. EDT. Only applications citing the shortage as the basis for requesting reweighting under the MIPS EUC Exception will be accepted. The AASM also encourages members who have been affected by the national IV fluid shortage to review eligibility for the AASM Foundation Disaster Relief Fund to potentially apply for financial assistance, if needed.
The AASM encourages submission of data as early as possible in advance of this extended deadline. Members may send questions regarding Quality Payment Program submissions or the CMS Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances policy to registry@aasm.org.
