The American Sleep Medicine Foundation (ASMF) is pleased to announce the AASM Physician Scientist Training Award.

Physicians (MD or DO) who have completed or have been accepted for an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited sleep medicine fellowship are eligible to apply for this award. The awards will include research expenses such as salary support, supplies and overhead for the awardees.

Through this award, the ASMF aims to support research training for physicians who wish to pursue careers as physician scientists in sleep medicine. The ASMF will award five one-year grants in the amount of $75,000 each to chosen candidates for research in sleep medicine. If the applicants are on a training grant of $100,000 (total support) the ASMF will deem them ineligible for the AASM PSTA. The award recipients will be recognized at SLEEP 2008. A grant review committee appointed by the ASMF Board of Directors will evaluate the proposals to determine the award recipients. Factors that will be included in the consideration will include the presence of resources necessary to complete the study (including the commitment of the fellowship director/research mentor), soundness and feasibility of the research plan, and the relationship between the funds provided and expected outcomes (value for the grant).

The application form for the AASM Physician Scientist Training Award is available on the newly launched ASMF Web site www.discoversleep.org/AwardTraining.aspx.

Candidates must complete the application process before Tuesday, January 15, 2008.
