The American Sleep Medicine Foundation (ASMF) in 2007 alone has awarded more than $1.1 million dollars in new grants to advance the study, understanding and practice of sleep medicine through research. Grants awarded this year will fund strategic research that documents the efficacy of new or established practice pathways and confirms outcomes of patient care delivered by sleep medicine specialists.

The ASMF has furthered its commitment to sleep medicine research with the recent establishment of several new grant opportunities for young investigators and established physician scientists. Through a generous investment of $1.875 million dollars from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), the ASMF has developed the AASM Physician Scientist Training Award.

The ASMF will award five one-year grants in the amount of $75,000 each to trainees at ACGME-accredited sleep medicine fellowship programs for research in sleep medicine. The AASM will fund five grants each year for the next five years — a total of 25 AASM Physician Sleep Scientist Awards.
