The American Medical Association (AMA) has released the CPT 2025 code set, featuring 420 updates that include 270 new codes, 112 deletions, and 38 revisions. Category III codes, which are temporary codes established for new and emerging technologies to allow data collection and are not reimbursed, account for 30% of the new additions to the code set.

The CPT Editorial Panel, an independent body convened by the AMA, oversees updates through a rigorous, open editorial process to ensure the code set reflects the evolving needs of modern health care. Notably, the 2025 update includes changes in digital medicine codes, specifically those reported for remote therapeutic monitoring (RTM), with revisions to codes 98975-98978. The codes were updated to include digital interventions and device supply for data access and transmission.

CPT is a registered trademark of the AMA, and the CPT 2025 Professional Edition can be purchased in the AMA storefront on Amazon.
