The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), along with the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), American Thoracic Society (ATS), and American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) is participating in a joint AMA/Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) survey on the codes for unattended sleep testing. The survey will collect data on physician time, intensity, and medical decision making for the three physician work codes.

AASM members may be called upon to complete these important surveys, which will help the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) assign accurate reimbursement rates for the low, moderate, and high complexity unattended sleep testing services. The survey has been sent by email to a random sample of members.

If you have received an email about the survey and are familiar with providing unattended sleep testing services, we encourage you to complete the survey as accurately as possible. Survey participants will have access to an educational video developed by the RUC to better understand how to complete the survey and the purpose of the survey process.

The survey closes March 14.

All questions regarding the unattended sleep testing survey can be directed to coding@aasm.org.
