The 3rd annual AASM PAC Breakfast, held at SLEEP 2015 in Seattle, convened as a resounding success. Each year the breakfast has become bigger and better than the last.
During the breakfast, Washington State Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler shared his health policy insight and held an interactive Q&A. For all in attendance the AASM PAC was proud to offer an informative and productive event, which included a message from the new AASM President, Dr. Nathaniel Watson. Your fellow physicians heard about the repeal of Medicare’s Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR), our continued push to bring millions of seniors to quality sleep care through Seniors Sleep and our new campaign to fix the fragmented state of patient care through the repeal of the Stark Law.
You diligently tend to your patients in your sleep lab. You explore the future of medicine in your research. Now, holistically, let’s heal the nation by taking our place on Capitol Hill. With a string of victories and the wind at our backs, it is time to take action.
I ask that you join me as an active sleep advocate. As Dr. Watson mentioned in his presentation, there are many ways for members to support the AASM PAC. Make a donation to the AASM PAC to strengthen our voice in federal policy or contact your lawmakers to stress the importance of Seniors Sleep and the repeal of the Stark Law.
As the 2016 election cycle looms, the sleep community needs all hands on deck to assure that our voices can be heard. Spread the word about the power of advocacy. Tell just two other sleep physicians about the AASM PAC and watch as our influence continues to grow.
For the health of our patients, and the vitality of our field,
David Kuhlmann, MD, FAASM
