On Aug. 11, 2025, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine joined more than 340 organizations in sending a letter to congressional leaders to request that Medicare beneficiaries maintain continued access to telehealth services, beyond when flexibilities are set to expire on Sept. 30, 2025.

While the AASM continues to advocate for these flexibilities to be made permanent, it is urging congressional leaders to grant another extension at a minimum. An extension would help ensure access to care for Medicare beneficiaries, given the many barriers to in-person care for this population. It would also address health care workforce shortages and encourage continued investment in tools and infrastructure to support the provision of telehealth services via virtual care models.

The AASM will continue to advocate for telehealth extensions to avoid potential impacts on continuity of care for Medicare beneficiaries, while emphasizing that these flexibilities should be made permanent.
