Worldsleep 2011, the 6th Quadrennial Congress of the World Sleep Federation, will take place Oct. 16-20 at the Kyoto International Conference Center in Kyoto, Japan. The deadline for “early-bird” registration has been extended to Aug. 15, 2011.

The theme of Worldsleep 2011 is “New Horizons of Sleep Research for Our Planet.”  The tentative program includes presentations from more than a dozen scheduled plenary lecturers, including Sonia Ancoli-Israel, Daniel Buysse, Mary Carskadon, Clifford Saper, Jerome Siegel, Eve Van Cauter and David White.

The Worldsleep 2011 Local Organizing Committee reports that Kyoto received no direct damage from the earthquakes and tsunami that struck Japan in March.  Furthermore, they report that the city has experienced no effects from the nuclear plant incident that occurred in Fukushima, which is located 500 km from Kyoto.
