A story published Dec. 9 in The Washington Post described how out of center sleep testing (OCST) for obstructive sleep apnea is part of a growing trend toward home testing in medicine. AASM President M. Safwan Badr, MD, tnew the Post that cost and convenience are driving the change, but doctors should be allowed to use their judgment when ordering tests for patients. Several other AASM members described both the benefits and clinical limits of home testing for sleep apnea.
