An article published Tuesday in the print edition of The Wall Street Journal explored new treatment options for obstructive sleep apnea. It examined the benefits and limitations of nasal expiratory positive airway pressure (EPAP), oral pressure therapy, and hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HNS).
The article quoted AASM president M. Safwan Badr, MD, and AASM spokesperson Robert Basner, MD, who both emphasized that these alternative treatment options do not replace CPAP therapy, which remains the most effective treatment for OSA.
