Reduce the Burden of Prior Authorization
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) advocates for reforms to reduce the burden of prior authorization requirements. While intended as a cost-control measure, prior authorization often creates unnecessary administrative barriers for healthcare providers and delays access to essential care for patients. For individuals with sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, timely diagnosis and treatment are critical to health and safety.
Legislative reforms — including the Seniors Timely Access to Care Act (H.R. 3514 / S. 1816) — would help streamline approvals, reduce administrative burdens, and improve transparency and consistency across payers. Together, we can support policies that ensure patients receive the care they need without unnecessary delays.
