This virtual course explores the foundational aspects of clinical sleep medicine with an emphasis on board exam preparation. Essential topics covered by the expert faculty include normal sleep, neurophysiology, sleep staging and event scoring, and sleep disorders diagnosis and treatment.

The on-demand Intensive Scoring Review provides 4.5 hours of practical instruction to help you implement the scoring rules in the AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events.

  • Describe signal processing of polysomnographic variables;
  • Recognize key waveforms for sleep scoring;
  • Differentiate sleep stages;
  • Detect arousals, sleep-related breathing events, and movements in sleep;
  • Identify common ECG and EEG abnormalities; and
  • Construct a comprehensive sleep report.

What Will Attendees Learn at Sleep Medicine Essentials?

  • Discuss normal sleep and the effects of sleep deprivation;
  • Explain the neurophysiology of sleep;
  • Recognize the nuances of circadian rhythm;

Sleep Medicine Essentials comprises 17 hours of presentations and live, interactive discussions covering the breadth of sleep medicine. Following the live course, participants will receive access to on-demand recordings of all the sessions. You can maximize your board exam preparation by registering for Sleep Medicine Essentials and either the weekly Board Prep Study Club (September – November) or the Final Board Prep Course (Nov. 10).

Confirmation and Registration Disclaimer

Confirmation will be sent via email within one week of receipt of the registration form and payment. All attendees must pre-register.

Cancellation Policy

Attendees will receive a full refund of all registration fees when a cancellation request is submitted in writing to the AASM meetings department at courses@aasm.org by Monday, Sept. 18, 2023. After this date, no refunds will be available. Refunds are not provided to no-shows. The AASM reserves the right to cancel this course and provide a full refund should conditions warrant. The refund will only include the cost of registration for the event.
