Role of AI in Sleep Health
12/19/2024
In this webinar, leading clinicians and researchers at the forefront of AI and sleep medicine will explore the transformative potential of AI in predicting health outcomes through sleep-related data. Panelists will delve into the value of sleep EEG in assessing neurological health and its predictive capabilities for conditions such as dementia. Additionally, experts will discuss how AI tools can be harnessed to predict outcomes related to sleep apnea, offering insights into early intervention and treatment strategies. The webinar will also cover the use of AI to analyze patient charts within Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) to extract critical sleep health information, shedding light on its role in diagnosing and managing a range of medical disorders, including neurodegenerative diseases.
Nuts and Bolts of AI: Sleep Center Integration
05/14/2025
In this webinar, leading clinicians and non-clinical experts will discuss their personal experiences of using AI in their workflows. They will discuss using AI in their sleep labs to score sleep studies, fit masks, and scribe clinical notes. Panelists will also discuss the potential of AI in business development and how leveraging AI in research can augment the research.
Before integrating AI into our practice, we must know its privacy, legal, and ethical implications. This will ensure responsible AI incorporation in workflows, both clinical and non-clinical.
Focused on innovative and technology-driven approaches to managing insomnia.
The Technology Tuck In: Insomnia Treatments
11/01/2024
Insomnia continues to be a common sleep disorder affecting ~10% of adults, with ~20% experiencing occasional insomnia. It is often a chronic condition with a 40% persistence rate over a 5-year period. Members of the Emerging Technology Committee share non-pharmacologic treatments for insomnia. Learn about the types of devices, nearables, wearables, and digital CBT-I options for the treatment of insomnia, particularly for your patients who have questions or desire treatments beyond or instead of traditional CBT-I or hypnotic medications.
These sessions address disparities and systemic factors affecting sleep health.
Social and Societal Determinants of Sleep Health and Sleep Disorders
10/04/2024
This webinar with interactive discussion will assist in understanding the role of sociodemographics and socioeconomics on sleep and describe societal factors as they influence sleep.
Pulse Oximetry and Sleep Health: Guidance for Use in Heterogeneous Populations
04/11/2025
The webinar will explore the inherent biases in pulse oximetry technology and their impact on healthcare. The webinar will provide strategies for equitable patient monitoring, ensuring accurate readings for all populations. It will feature expert insights, case studies, and actionable guidance for non-discriminatory use of pulse oximetry in clinical settings.
Webinars in this group highlight emerging therapies and practical guidance for treating obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
Exploring Hypoglossal Nerve Stimulation: An Innovation in Sleep Apnea Treatment
01/17/2025
Tolerance and adherence to positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy remains to be a challenge for some patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). It is estimated that about half of the patients with OSA have poor long-term adherence to PAP therapy. This webinar sponsored by the Sleep Technologist and Respiratory Therapist Education Committee focuses on hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HGNS) as an option for patients who struggle with PAP therapy. The discussion includes different aspects of this form of neuromodulation therapy: patient selection, surgical evaluation and implantation, device activation and follow-up, and HGNS titration sleep study.
Prescribing Tirzepatide for OSA- Practical Implementation and Challenges
04/22/2025
Since the introduction of using tirzepatide for patients with obstructive sleep apnea, AASM members have been given details about the drugs but have been missing the practical application of prescribing it in-clinic. This webinar will aim to help sleep medicine clinicians better understand when and how to prescribe the recently approved obesity medication tirzepatide for patients with a diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea.
These sessions focus on devices and digital tools used in sleep diagnostics and monitoring.
Beyond the Wrist: Actigraphy-Based Wearables in Sleep Medicine
02/07/2025
Actigraphy is an essential tool in sleep medicine, particularly for objectively evaluating sleep-wake patterns and aiding in the diagnosis and treatment monitoring of sleep disorders. Actigraphy-based wearables have evolved significantly in recent years in both capabilities and available sensors. These advancements come with benefits and challenges for clinicians and researchers in choosing a device for clinical or research uses, data management, costs, and in interpreting results for patients. Increasingly, commercial wearables are gaining medical clearance for physiologic monitoring and sleep-related indications. In this webinar, members of the Emerging Technology Committee discuss available actigraphy devices, considerations when choosing a device, and the future of wearables for sleep-related and monitoring indications, with implications for sleep medicine practitioners.
