Actigraphy is an essential tool in sleep medicine, particularly for objectively evaluating sleep-wake patterns and aiding in the diagnosis and treatment monitoring of sleep disorders. Actigraphy-based wearables have evolved significantly in recent years in both capabilities and available sensors. These advancements come with benefits and challenges for clinicians and researchers in choosing a device for clinical or research uses, data management, costs, and in interpreting results for patients. Increasingly, commercial wearables are gaining medical clearance for physiologic monitoring and sleep-related indications. In this webinar, members of the Emerging Technology Committee discuss available actigraphy devices, considerations when choosing a device, and the future of wearables for sleep-related and monitoring indications, with implications for sleep medicine practitioners.
