CHAIR
Dr. Lynn D’Andrea, MD, Chair, is
starting her second year as the Chair
of the Childhood Sleep Disorders and
Development Committee. She is a
Professor of Pediatrics at the Medical
College of Wisconsin/Children’s
Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee,
WI. Dr. D’Andrea is Chief of the
Division of Pediatric Pulmonary and
Sleep Medicine and is the Director
of the Pediatric Sleep Center. She is
board-certified in Pediatric Pulmonary
Medicine and Sleep Medicine, and
specializes in the comprehensive
management of children with
pulmonary and sleep concerns. Dr.
D’Andrea holds a special interest in
children with neuromuscular weakness
and children in need of home
mechanical ventilation.
HARI BANDLA, MD –
VICE-CHAIR
Dr. Hari Bandla, MD, Vice-Chair, is an
Associate Professor of Pediatrics and
Section Chief of the Divisions of Pediat-
ric Pulmonology and Sleep medicine at
the University of Chicago. He is also the
Medical Director of Pediatric Respirato-
ry Care and Pediatric Sleep Program at
Comer Children’s Hospital/University
of Chicago Medical Center. He is board
certified in Pediatric Pulmonology and
Sleep Medicine. He specializes in the
comprehensive management of sleep
disorders in children and infants, with a
special interest in the treatment of chil-
dren needing home ventilation. Also an
active physician scientist, Dr. Bandla’s
research has focused on Sleep Medi-
cine education for medical trainees and
pediatric sleep disorders associated
with other health conditions, including
obesity, cystic fibrosis and gastroesoph-
ageal reflux disease (GERD).

Similar to last year, we will be hosting a
Data Blitz
during the section meeting.
The object of the Data Blitz is to provide a forum in which emerging science
can be presented in a relatively informal setting. Each speaker will have 2
minutes to present their data in no more than 2 slides. Presentations may
cover any aspect of childhood sleep disorders & development research
including fundamental, clinical or transitional work.
If you are interested in participating, please contact Dr. Hari Bandla at

the deadline for response is May 8, 2015.
Speakers will be asked to email their slides to Dr. Bandla no later than two
weeks prior to the start of the meeting. Students and trainees are especially
invited to participate.
We will do our best to accommodate all who wish to present.
HOW MUCH SLEEP DO WE NEED? UPDATED 2015
GUIDELINES
The National Sleep Foundation, in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary expert
panel, recently published its new recommendations for appropriate sleep durations.
The report recommends wider appropriate sleep ranges for most age groups,
including infants, children, and adolescents. A new range, “may be appropriate,” has
been added to acknowledge the individual variability in appropriate sleep durations.
The recommendations define sleep times as either (a) recommended; (b) may be
appropriate for some individuals; or (c) not recommended.
