hygiene education in a randomized clinical trial in parallel
groups of elderly individuals. The mindfulness group also
showed significant improvement on secondary health
outcomes of insomnia. Authors concluded that formalized
mindfulness based interventions have clinical significance as
they might help not just reduce sleep problems in elderly, but
they appear to reduce sleep related day time impairment and
improve quality of life.
Mindfulness might have some benefits related to sleep,
but it has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety during
daytime. We all know that reducing stress during the daytime
time translates into a good night sleep. Further randomized
controlled studies are needed to consolidate mindfulness-
based practice as a tool in our armamentarium of treatment
options for insomnia.
