of actigraphy data and derivation of circadian phase,
so that methods can ultimately be compared and stan-
dardized. More field-based circadian rhythms studies
with direct application into the clinical arena are also
needed, preferably with measurements of impacts
on discrete patient outcomes and clinical decision-
making. Synergistic efforts by our section could create
headway in all of these areas.
Additional proactive efforts to enhance circadian
rhythms clinical practices are in progress. Drs. Auger
and Sharkey are serving on an American Academy of
Sleep Medicine Task Force, which intends to publish
updated Circadian Rhythms Sleep Disorders Practice
Parameters in 2013.

appreciate direct feedback regarding desired roles and
goals of the Circadian Rhythms Section. Novel ideas
need to emanate from the needs expressed by the gen-
