With winter all but behind us and
spring quickly approaching, our
attention will once again turn to
the upcoming SLEEP 2013, 27
th
Annual Meeting of the Associ-
ated Professional Sleep Societies
in Baltimore, Maryland. We want
to update you in advance of the
meeting about some of the ac-
tivities that have been going on
within the section. Several mem-
bers of our section have been busy
since our last meeting, developing
and promoting activities of inter-
est to section members at large.

section were involved with Task
Forces through both the American
Academy of Sleep Medicine as well
as the American Academy of Pe-
diatrics to develop guidelines and
standards of practice for polysom-
nography testing in children. Also,
several members assisted in the
development of 16 online learning
modules that are part of the series
Diagnosing and Treating Sleep Dis-
orders in the Pediatric Population
,
which were released January 2013
and provide CME credits.
SLEEP 2013 promises a diverse
array of postgraduate courses, in-
vited lecturers, clinical workshops,
and oral and poster presentations
related to children. At a glance,
five of the 15 postgraduate courses
focus on or include children. In
addition, Dr. Avi Sadeh is one
of the Invited Lecturers and will
discuss “
Sleep development and
childhood insomnia: Insights from
actigraphic studies
.”
The section meeting for the
Childhood Sleep Disorders and
Development Section will take
place Monday, June 3
rd
from
5:15
to 6:15pm in the Baltimore
Convention Center. This is a
wonderful opportunity for mem-
bers to meet up with old friends,
network with colleagues, and to
hear updates related to pediatric
sleep issues. Agenda items include
updates on Standards of Practice
related to children, as well as an
update on the new
ICSD
.
Out-
come assessment measures have
become an increasingly important
topic both in our clinical practice,
as well as in regard to financial
reimbursement and we hope to
have a thoughtful discussion. We
encourage all section members
to attend to be able to provide
input and share insight with
the group.
