SUMMARY:Sleep Grand Rounds: Research Gaps and Opportunities in AASM Clinical Practice Guidelines
DESCRIPTION:The future of sleep medicine starts with the questions we have yet to answer. Join renowned experts for a dynamic Sleep Grand Rounds discussion exploring the biggest research opportunities emerging from recent AASM clinical practice guidelines. This thought-provoking webinar will examine key evidence gaps across chronic insomnia disorder\, obstructive sleep apnea in hospitalized adults\, shift work disorder\, and central sleep apnea—areas where new discoveries could significantly enhance patient care and outcomes. \nGain an insider’s perspective on the research priorities that may influence future guidelines\, clinical practice\, and funding opportunities. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of where the field is headed\, the challenges that remain\, and the opportunities available to help shape the next era of sleep and circadian medicine research. Register today and be part of the conversation driving tomorrow’s advances. \nModerator:\nEmerson Wickwire\, PhD \nPanelists:\nReena Mehra\, MD\, MS\nUniversity of Washington\nDr. Mehra is a clinician scientist dedicated to investigating sleep disorders and their impact on health and disease with a focus on cardiopulmonary disease. She is Division Head of Pulmonary\, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine\, Professor of Medicine with tenure and A. Bruce Montgomery\, MD\, American Lung Association Endowed Chair in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Washington. She has served as Chair of NIH Workshops\, Chair of the inpatient sleep apnea management guideline\, and Chair of the 2022 AHA statement on sleep apnea and cardiac arrhythmia. \nDaniel J. Buysse\, MD\nUniversity of Pittsburgh School of Medicine\nDaniel J. Buysse\, MD\, is Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry\, Medicine\, and Clinical and Translational Science and the UPMC Endowed Chair in Sleep Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. His research focuses on measurement of sleep and circadian rhythms\, including patient-reported outcomes (PROs); insomnia pathophysiology and treatment; multidimensional sleep health; and behavioral interventions for sleep problems. Dr. Buysse is President of the Sleep Research Society and Past President of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. \nKenneth P. Wright Jr.\, PhD\nUniversity of Colorado Boulder\nKen Wright is a Professor of Distinction in the Department of Integrative Physiology and Director of the Sleep and Chronobiology Laboratory at the University of Colorado Boulder. He has over 30 years of experience in the sleep and circadian fields\, and has led individual and multicenter/team research grants. His research aims to explain the physiology of sleep and circadian rhythms in humans\, and understand the health and safety consequences of sleep and circadian disruptions\, such as\, cardiometabolic dysregulation and impaired cognition. His research also aims to develop circadian and sleep biomarkers and strategies to promote sleep and circadian health. \nM. Safwan Badr\, MD\, MBA\nWayne State University\nDr. Badr is a Professor and Chair\, Department of Internal Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine\, and a Staff Physician at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center. Dr. Badr completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Cook County Hospital in Chicago\, followed by clinical and research fellowships in Pulmonary\, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the University of Wisconsin\, Madison. Dr. Badr has served on multiple national and international medical societies. He has served on the Board of Directors of the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). He was the President of the AASM from 2013-2014. \nRegister Now
