In light of the changes to the American Board of Internal Medicine’s Maintenance of Certification program, the AASM sent a letter this week to the ABIM expressing concerns about their MOC program. The AASM understands that many board certified sleep medicine physicians are concerned about the arduous process for maintaining their certification and do not know what the future holds. Specific areas of concern that the AASM addressed include: the high cost of MOC, educational redundancy between MOC and MOL requirements, inefficiencies in the MOC process, arbitrary requirements for multiple examinations and the lack of representation for specialties like sleep medicine.
